Meet the Founder

Dennis David

Mr. Dennis David

Dennis David had a dream to give kids the opportunities they needed to be successful in life. While tutoring low-income elementary students in Fallbrook in 2000, he realized they weren’t participating in fun, organized after-school activities and decided to take several of them to a Fallbrook High School football game. The kids had never seen a football game and were in awe watching the players and cheering crowds under the stadium lights. Meeting the players on the field after the game, including Board Member Gio Morales, inspired them to work hard in school and pursue their dreams. Dennis knew that if kids were given the opportunities they needed, they would have the motivation to do well in school and reach their full potential.

In 2000, Dennis co-founded Opportunities for Kids to raise money for local, low-income kids to participate in sports, and in 2003 they expanded to include music, tutoring, and other activities. For his ten years of service as the Executive Director of Fallbrook Youth Scholarships he was the recipient of the 2008 David Chow Foundation Humanitarian Award.

In addition to his involvement in Opportunities for Kids, he was the owner of a landscape company for thirty years, and, prior to that, he was Director of Government Relations and Racing for Kawasaki Heavy Industries in the United States. He attended the University of Southern California (Mathematics), University of California Los Angeles (Business Law) and California State University Long Beach (Business Administration). He served four years on the Board of Trustees of The Hilltop Center in Fallbrook, California (two as President) and 2 years on the Board of Directors of the Trojan Football Alumni Club. He was a professional musician and active member of the Fallbrook community for 25 years.

After a 3 month battle with ALS, Dennis passed away peacefully on May 19, 2012 with his family by his side, but is legacy and his mission to help our community’s kids live on through Opportunities for Kids.
